Trek Yoga Tamang Heritage

 

A gentle introduction to yoga in magical places, a trek steeped in Tibetan and Buddhist culture, exploring the sacred sites of the Kathmandu Valley and Buddhist ceremonies.

The combination of walking and yoga allows you to delve deeply into yourself to appreciate and experience each moment intensely. You will become increasingly open to your senses, your breath, and your body through observation, contemplation, and wonder.

With many myths associated with it, this 7-day Tamang Heritage trek will give you an unforgettable insight into the cultural identity of this region, steeped in Tibetan tradition. You will enjoy meeting the Tamang people, who are warm and welcoming. It's a path marked by Buddhist culture, with numerous temples and stupas that you will enjoy discovering. You will enjoy magnificent views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himalaya, Shishapangma and many more, through stunning landscapes and villages surrounded by natural diversity.

Description

Day 1: Kathmandu (1350m)
Accommodation: Kathmandu Guesthouse Flight with a transfer from Europe and arrival in Kathmandu on a scheduled flight. Transfer and arrival at a hotel in the Thamel district. At the end of the day, open circle and meeting with your Nepalese guide and yoga teacher.

Day 2: Kathmandu (1350m)
Accommodation: Kathmandu Guesthouse Yoga session before breakfast in the hotel gardens. Then, after breakfast, visit the Monkey Temple with a French-speaking guide. In the afternoon, meet a Guru and yogi. At the end of the day, a beautiful yoga session in a superb room, which will conclude with a sound bath with Tibetan bowls.

Day 3: Kathmandu - Syabrubesi (1450m) 6-hour drive
Transportation: Private minibus
Accommodation: Lodge After a body awakening and a hearty breakfast, we set off early in the morning by minibus to Syabru Besi (1450m). We leave the Kathmandu Valley via a small pass before reaching the banks of the Trishuli River, which, upstream from Nuwakot, becomes Bhote Khosi, the "Tibetan River." We ascend along the gorge to Dhunche, the entrance to Langtang National Park. From there, we quickly reach the village of Syabrubhesi. We have the opportunity to enjoy the two small pools fed by hot springs and to practice our yoga and meditation activities.

Day 4: Syabrubesi - Gatlang (2300m)

Accommodation: Lodge After a restful night, we begin the day with a body-warming session and a hearty breakfast. The walk begins with a 2-hour climb with a series of switchbacks that mark the beginning of the trail. It's worth the effort, as you'll be amazed by the viewpoints of the Ganesh Himal, the Gosainkunda range, and Langtang Lirung. Along the trail, you'll see numerous Buddhist chortens and mani walls, which add another dimension to this picturesque landscape. After a descent of approximately 45 minutes, you will arrive at the small Tamang village of Goljung for a yoga session and lunch. Continue the hike for 2.5 hours to another Tamang village called Gatlang (2,238 m). You will enjoy discovering its rich culture. A meditation session will be offered at sunset, followed by a talking circle to conclude the day.

Day 5: Gatlang – Tatopani (2600m)

Accommodation: Lodge After waking up at sunrise and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we begin a gradual descent along a ridge to the Bamdang Khola, which turns north along the Chilime Khola River to the town of Chilime. After crossing a suspension bridge (always fun), you'll begin a strenuous climb of approximately 450 meters to the village of Gongang. The steep climb takes about an hour and a half, but a yoga and lunch break is planned upon arrival. The next section is much less physically demanding, as we continue climbing for about 2 hours until we reach Tatopani (2600m). We can then relax in the 40°C hot springs.

Day 6: Tatopani - Tharu Kharka - Naghtali (3216 m)

Accommodation: Lodge After our wake-up yoga session and a hearty breakfast, we hit the trail again for a beautiful day of walking to reach Naghtali at 3200 m. After the yoga session and lunch break, we begin the climb to Tharu Kharka at 3600 m. (Ascent optional) A stretching session and meditation session at the end of the day to relax our muscles before dinner.

Day 7: Naghtali / Thuman (2,400 m)

Accommodation: Lodge After awakening our bodies and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we begin a descent through deep forests bathed in the sounds of birds to Thuman, which overlooks the peaks of Shisapangma and Langtang Lirung. A distinct Tibetan influence can be felt in the village, with its shamanic beliefs, ancient monasteries, and houses covered in wooden carvings. Here we will take a yoga break and then lunch. We then cross rhododendron forests, meadows, and a rope bridge to reach the village of Briddhim, located in the heart of the Langtang Himal. It will take just over two hours of uphill walking. Briddhim marks the end of the Tamang Heritage Trail and is often a highlight for many travelers. We can dance and sing Nepalese songs around the wood stove to spread joy.

Day 8: Thuman / Briddhim (2200 m)
Distance: 8.6 km

Elevation loss: 200 m

Accommodation: Lodge After waking up and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we begin a descent through deep forests bathed in the sounds of birdsong to Thuman, which overlooks the peaks of Shisapangma and Langtang Lirung. Accommodation: Lodge After our yoga awakening and breakfast, we resume the trail that takes us through the terraced crops of the Himalayan foothills. We descend to Syabrubesi and then climb back up to the village of Thulo Syabru. One of the most beautiful Tamang villages, it also has a small temple. A yoga session will be offered during the day.

Day 10: Thulo Syabru - Thulo Barkhu and transfer to Namobuddha

Accommodation: Lodge After our yoga session and breakfast, we follow the regular forest trail to Thulo Barkhu. Transfer to Namobuddha by 4x4.

Day 11: Namobuddha
After our morning yoga session, we continue our visit to the monastery and the village. We participate in the afternoon prayer. The schedule may be changed for the morning.

Day 12: Transfer to the Aurobindo Ashram
After a body-awakening session before sunrise, we visit the small historic town of Panauti and continue to the Aurobindo Ashram with the children of Ramchandra. Kirtan in the evening.

Day 13: Aurobindo Ashram
Visit to the Ashram; Karma Yoga with the children of the Ashram and a hike to the Chandragiri Pass. Transfer to Bodhnath, Hotel near Sechen Monastery

Day 14: Free day
Assist in morning prayer in Sechen Monastery and later visit different monasteries and Bodhnat Stupa

Day 15: Transfer to the airport
Free time, then transfer to the airport according to your flight time.
